Flood 2010
AKHUWAT - RAJANPUR MODEL
Akhuwat, Pakistan's largest individual based, interest free micro finance programme, is rendering various types of services for the flood victims of District Rajan Pur, D.G.Khan, Mianwali, Nowshehra, Leyyah and Muzaffar Garh:
Immediate Relief: Provision of Food, Shelter,
Drinking Water, Medicines, Tents and other necessary items of
daily use. These items are being provided
in collaboration with local volunteers
and few other partner NGOs. Substantial funds
have been arranged for this purpose
and supplies of around Rs 5 million have already
been distributed.
Permanent Rehabilitation: We feel that
once the water starts receding and people
start returning to
their homes, the real challenge of rehabilitation
will emerge. Akhuwat has decided
to play an instrumental role at this point
of time as well. It has envisaged as following:
-
Akhuwat has adapted District Rajan Pur and has deployed 90% of its relief/rehabilitation resources in this area.
-
Ten thousand families will be selected from this district for the purposes of rehabilitation.
-
These families will be provided with Interest free loans (Qarz a Hasna) to start a business or to invest in Agriculture and Livestock.
-
Loans will be utilized for starting the lost business, buying agricultural inputs and buying live stock.
-
Loans will be given on the basis of social collateral. No physical collateral will be needed.
-
The loans will be returnable on easy monthly or harvest related installment and according to the income and cash flow of the borrower.
-
Five offices have been established in the district in and around towns like Rajan Pur, Jam Pur, Kot Mithan, Fazil Pur.
-
The loans size ranges from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 30,000 depending on the actual needs of the family.
-
The funds are being raised from civil society and philanthropists from within the country and abroad.
-
Operations have already been started and interest free loans of PKR 52 million have been disbursed among 3382 families.
-
Akhuwat is a non political, non communal, non sectarian organization.
-
Any individual or a well to do family can join this programme by donating Rs. 20,000 only. This twenty thousand will, inshaAllah, keep on revolving among the poor and needy for all times to come. You may like to support more than one family by donating more money. The entire effort will need Rs 150 million.
-
Civil Society Organizations, NGOs and Donor Agencies are particularly requested to join hands and collaborate with Akhuwat.
-
Akhuwat has also started its rehabilitation activities in other flood affected cities Nowshera and Muzafargarh. Interest free loans are being disbursed among flood affected families of these two cities.
