As many as Rs 50 million was disbursed on Friday among 1,500 deserving families as interest-free loan under Akhuwat Micro Finance, Chief Minster Self Employment Scheme, that is meant to make them effective and self-sufficient member of the society. The ceremony was held at the Central Mosque, University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) in which UAF Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Iqbal Zafar was the chief guest.

While, member Steering Committee Akhuwat Akbar Pervez, UAF Chairman Department of Biochemistry Dr Khalil-ur-Rehman, Dr Naveed Farah, Incharge Cloth Bank Akhuwat Muhammad Aslam, Dr Khalid Shouq, Akhuwat Regional Manager Khalid Mehmood, Akhuwat Area Manager Rasheed Ahmad, Akhuwat’s Muhammad Aslam Javed, Saim Ahsan, Muhammad Abid and other notables also attended the ceremony.

The Vice Chancellor said that the journey of Akhuwat started 1400 years ago when brotherhood was established between migrants and the Ensar-e-Madina by the last and final Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH). He said that life of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) guides us in every sphere of life.

He lauded the measures being taken on the part of Akhuwat ie helping those who didn’t have any ray of hope for betterment in their lives. He said that education works as the engine of a bright future for individuals and the society. He said that one third people in the country are living below the poverty line. He explained that poverty can be alleviated through education and skilled manpower.

Akbar Pervez said that Akhuwat was established in 2001 with the objective of providing interest free microfinance to the poor in order to enhance their standard of living. Drawing on the principles of social justice and brotherhood, Akhuwat strives to alleviate poverty by creating a system based on mutual support in society. He said that there budget have increased to Rs 52 billion.

Dr Khalil-ur-Rehman added that interest free loan for the deserving people was the hallmark step that will bring prosperity and address their problems. He said that it is a step towards making deprived segment of society self-reliant.
